Biomass Reutilization Project To
increase community safety and protect air quality in the Ojai Valley
the OVFSC has collaborated with The C.R.E.W.(Concerned Resource &
Environmental Workers) to coordinate the distribution of free chipped
mulch to area farmers and residents. The mulch is a byproduct of The
C.R.E.W.'s fuelbreak construction project which employs local youth to
cut fuelbreaks around the Valley, providing the community protection
against wildfires. The OVFCS promotes the use of chipped mulch for
water conservation, erosion and weed control. Chipping also reduces the
need for controlled burns, thus protecting air quality.
